Great Country with Great People
In 1936, as Mao Zedong and Peng Dehuai led the Red Army to triumphantly reach Yuanjiagou, Mao climbed a snow-covered plateau over a thousand meters high to survey the terrain. Gazing upon the vast, frozen landscape of the motherland, he was filled with emotion and inspiration, penning his bold poem, Snow: To the Tune of Qin Yuan Chun. Inspired by Mao’s poetic vision, Chung Chen Sun created Great Country with Great People, a painting that showcases the grandeur of China’s majestic mountains and rivers.
The composition is rich and robust, with powerful ink strokes portraying the towering, undulating mountains, embodying a vast and heroic spirit. A glowing red sun illuminates the peaks and clouds, symbolizing new hope spreading across the land. Subtle touches of red in the valleys hint at boundless possibilities for the future. Every detail reflects the artist's deep admiration for the nation’s landscape. Through this painting, one can almost hear the rushing rivers and feel the majesty of the mountains—a silent yet profound expression of the artist’s love for the homeland.
As we celebrate the founding of the Republic, Great Country with Great People reminds us of China’s rise in the East, like the morning sun. Though challenges lie ahead, the future promises brilliance and prosperity.
